I kept a herd of Mammoth Donkeys (a rare livestock breed) for several decades. Their way of saying “NO!” was to get in front of me (600# to 900#) and just stop. Or grab me by my suspenders and plant their feet. Or to put their head on my shoulder, stretch out their neck, close their eyes blubber their lips and DEMAND a nice long ear-rub. Or turn ’round and back up to me, blocking progress and demanding a good ol’ butt-scratching. By exploiting my disability, my sister’s family, her husband and her kids, forced the sale of our family farm. Because of my work and management we all came out money ahead, but I should have forced them to pick up their share of the work too. For less stress than that family cost me, she and her family could have been …”eliminated.” Sometimes I still regret “doing the right thing.” Yes, “loving my enemies” built some good things into my life. But that generation learned nothing from it, and they still ended up with ungrateful hearts full of hate. A great example of “casting pearls before swine.”
