The Pennsylvania treasury in 2019 did a study on retirement and discovered 40% of retirees were living solely on Social Security as their only means of income. In 2025 that averages to $24,000 a year minus $2240 withheld to pay for Medicare.
SCHOOL districts are struggling financially to meet pension obligations. IN PA districts must pay the pension pool a fee equal to 35% of its teacher salary budget to stop digging the debt hole deeper. PENSION debt is higher then the PA Governments entire budget.
The median 50 year old has $0 saved for retirement.
