One killed after landing on every island in the Pacific with 5th Marines until he was killed at New Britain Island on 3 Jan 1944 during the Cape Gloucester Campaign. A few months later, my other 3 uncles landed at Omaha Beach. My father was in Korea and did 38 years active duty with Regular and Guard units while I was in the 82nd Airborne.
