The worst feeling when you’re a victim of narcissistic abuse is when nobody believes you because they’re so good at hiding their true selves. They only let go of their mask in front of their victims, so everybody else who knows them thinks you’re the crazy one. “He’s so nice to me though! He would never do that!”

What’s scary is that you don’t truly know what someone’s character is actually like unless you get to know them well enough over an extended period. But even then, those who are expert manipulators can put on a false persona in public while transforming into a totally different person behind closed doors.
