I knew a Lebanese woman who came to NYC to escape the Lebanon civil war in the mid 70s. She made a good career for herself and brought her youngest sister to save her from the after effects of that war. She became extremely fearful after 911 because her accent and origins caused her to be falsely accused of being Muslim. Being of a sensitive nature, accustomed to “doing everything right”, she developed colon cancer @2007 and died from it @2012. She attributed the cancer to the stress of the false accusations.
